In November, The High School Model United Nations (MUN) Club traveled to Istanbul where they attended the ENIMUN conference at ENKA schools. For three days, they worked with students from a variety of different countries to find solutions to global problems and debate the pressing issues of our time. They tackled a range of Environmental, Humanitarian, Security, Financial, and Legal issues in their committees and addressed the problems of Decolonization. Additionally, our club president, Yaren Atılgan, served as a judge on the International Court of Justice, where she presided over questions of International Law. The conference provided an excellent opportunity to discuss global issues in the language of global problem solving: English.
It was not all serious work however, in addition to attending the conference, the MUN club took advantage of some of the cultural opportunities Istanbul had to offer. They visited the Galata Tower and Taksim Square, went shopping in Levent, ate Sushi, and attended a dance party with other ENIMUN participants at a restaurant on the Bosphorus. Art Museum visits with the High School Art Teacher, Lies Warlop, were also organized and many students visited Istanbul Modern, SALT Beyoglu and The Pera Museum. The MUN club returned to Erzurum more cultured and highly enthusiastic for the next MUN adventure.
